I loved the chance being able to get real time experience in the field that I am studying at KU.

Learning basics of the language (in this case, learning to read hangul) is an incredible help. It may seem obvious, but showing respect to the culture and showing people you are interested in them helps so much. Obviously, the functional aspect of understanding what it is you are buying or where you are going is helpful, but people appreciate when foreigners make the effort (especially in a place like Korea, where it's not completely necessary, so foreigners tend to have a bad reputation).

From an academic point of view, definitely the invaluable experience I gained by being able to work in an architectural firm and learning the ropes of how a firm operates. From a personal point of view, the immersion of being in South Korea and being able to gain new insights into Korean culture was invaluable.
