Program Description:
Funding your Study Abroad Program

The Office of Study Abroad can do personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students.  Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.  KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Federal Grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a Study Abroad Program.  
 
KU Study Abroad supplemental scholarships are available to KU degree seeking students. Applications are available online. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Summer and Fall and Academic Year programs and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break and Spring Break programs.

Non-KU students should check into the financial resources available to them at their home institutions.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to complete several documents for each study abroad application.  Below is a list of documents that will need to be completed for an application.

        a. Statement of Purpose
        b. Verification of Minimum GPA Requirement
        c. Unofficial Transcript or Advising Report
        d. 1 Recommendation
        e. Authorization to Release Student Information
        f. Student Conduct Verification

I learned more about myself and I found peace and tranquility while immersing myself in a new culture. I discovered what my tastebuds enjoyed or turned away from by trying everything presented to me. I learned to constantly take photos but to also seize the moment without the camera. I found Independence and strength I did not know existed.

My favorite part of this program were the artist residencies I was able to participate in, such as Awagami Paper Factory and the Mokuhanga Printmaking Artist Residency as well as the special cultural experiences such as the Kabuki Theatre performance, wonderful food, and the temples!

I found the student exchange component very rewarding. It was one thing to experience the country as a western cloister, it was another to have to communicate cross-culturally with Japanese students, and try to work beyond the language barrier and into the universal language of art and sensation.
