Funding your Study Abroad Program

KU Study Abroad can do personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students.  Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.  KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Federal Grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a study abroad program.  
 
KU Study Abroad supplemental scholarships are available to KU degree seeking students. Applications are available online. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Summer, March 15th for Fall and Academic Year programs and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break and Spring Break programs.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to complete several documents for each study abroad application.  Below is a list of documents that will need to be completed for an application.

  • Academic Plan and Approval Form
  • Authorization to Release Student Information
  • Financial Aid Questionnaire
  • Official Transcript
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Student Conduct Verification
  • Two General Recommendations
  • Verification of Minimum GPA Requirement

I think that being able to meet people from all over the world was the most rewarding part. I've grown up and spent my entire life in a Midwest bubble, so being able to expand that by meeting people from so many corners of the planet was fantastic.

It's so difficult to choose my favorite part of the program as I loved almost every part of it. I made some of the best friends I've ever made, discovered a new interest in my major, and traveled all over the UK and Europe as a whole. Having the opportunity to take classes that aren't available at KU was fantastic as I opened my eyes to a whole new branch of my major that's helping drive my life plans after I graduate.

Going into the program open-minded but still having goals is the best advice I can give. You don't want to put yourself in a corner by thinking narrow-mindedly and not allowing yourself to do some things outside your comfort zone, but you also should have an idea of things you want to do while you're abroad. The time you have over there will fly by, and even after five months, I can say I did so many things that I didn't even expect, but I also have a giant list of what I want to do next time I go back.
