Program Description:


Funding your Study Abroad Program

KU Study Abroad can do personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students.  Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.  KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Federal Grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a study abroad program.  
 
KU Study Abroad supplemental scholarships are available to KU degree seeking students. Applications are available online. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Summer, March 15th for Fall and Academic Year programs and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break and Spring Break programs.

Drs. Dean T. and Elisabeth Collins Scholarship
Fund created by estate gift from the late Dean and Elisabeth Collins. Awards up to $10,000 for students on semester or $20,000 for year long programs to Germany.  Open to all majors but preference for students studying music and particularly opera. Minimum 2.5 GPA requirement.
 

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

A wide range of scholarships are also available through the German Academic Exchange Service (www.daad.org). Please contact the KU Office of Study Abroad for more information.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to complete several documents for each study abroad application.  Below is a list of documents that will need to be completed for an application.

  • Academic Plan and Approval Form
  • Authorization to Release Student Information
  • Autobiography
  • Financial Aid Questionnaire
  • Official Transcript
  • One General Recommendation and One Language Recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Student Conduct Verification
  • Verification of Minimum GPA Requirement

I liked that international students weren't isolated from German students, or limited to certain classes, there was a real effort to integrate students and I felt like the classes I took were always filled with either German students or other international students, so I was constantly meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, this was probably the most rewarding part for me personally. I also found it rewarding living in the city, rather than the suburbs, people were always willing to converse in German and by the end of my program most of my conversations in a day were in German, even ones with friends. It was really rewarding to notice my own confidence in speaking grow and to be able to converse much more easily than when I first arrived.
