Program Description:


Funding your Study Abroad Program

KU Study Abroad can do personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students.  Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.  KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Federal Grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a study abroad program.  
 
KU Study Abroad supplemental scholarships are available to KU degree seeking students. Applications are available online. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Summer, March 15th for Fall and Academic Year programs and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break and Spring Break programs.

Scholarships

DIS offers scholarships of $500-$2000 per semester. Students may also apply for work study scholarships of up to $300 per semester.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to complete several documents for each study abroad application.  Below is a list of documents that will need to be completed for an application. 

  • Academic Plan and Approval Form
  • Authorization to Release Student Information
  • Financial Aid Questionnaire
  • Host Institution DIS Application
  • Portfolio CD (Statement of Purpose, Portfolio of Design Work, Resume)
  • Student Conduct Verification
  • Unofficial Transcript
  • Verification of Minimum GPA Requirement

The most rewarding elements were certainly those that allowed me to get to know Danish culture on a really intimate level, such as living with a Dane my age studying at Copenhagen University and meeting up with my visiting host family often and getting to know them. These memories that I've shared with the Danes I've grown close to are the ones I will keep long after returning to America, and are certainly the ones that shaped my experiences while abroad.

You don't need nearly as much clothes as you think.

I learned so much about the Danish approach to design on many scales as well as traditional construction and woodworking techniques. This was a very interesting lense through which to experience Scandinavian culture, and will influence my future work greatly.
