Program Description:

Application Procedures

  • Pre-Decision Phase: Interested students complete qualifying statements and application materials to be considered for the program
  • Interview: The program’s faculty director interviews candidates to determine which students will be accepted
  • Post-Decision Phase:  Students who are accepted into the program complete documents for placement with Italian host families and schools; students also complete KU Study Abroad & Global Engagement pre-departure requirements.


Funding your Study Abroad Program

KU Study Abroad can do personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students.  Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.  KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Federal Grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a study abroad program.  
 
KU Study Abroad supplemental scholarships are available to KU degree seeking students. Applications are available online. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Summer, March 15th for Fall and Academic Year programs and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break and Spring Break programs.

It was most rewarding getting to build relationships with my host family that will last a lifetime. Also, getting to see another country and how their school system operates.

You must learn to be incredibly flexible and comfortable in difficult situations. You learn to navigate life in another country where you don't speak the language.

Even though the children knew I could not speak their language, they still welcomed me everyday with hugs and kisses. I felt honored to be a part of their classroom and watch how their culture goes about their daily preschool routines.
