Program Description:


Funding your Study Abroad Program

Study Abroad & Global Engagement (SAGE) offers personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students. Schedule an in-person or virtual financial aid and scholarships advising appointment. KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of federal and/or other loans, federal grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a study abroad program.

KU Study Abroad & Global Engagement Scholarships are available to KU degree-seeking students.

Applications are available online.

The scholarship application deadline is February 15 for Summer, March 1 for Fall and Academic Year programs, and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break, and Spring Break programs.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to complete several documents for each study abroad application.  Below is a list of documents that will need to be completed for an application.?

  • Academic Plan and Approval Form
  • Authorization to Release Student Information
  • Financial Aid Questionnaire
  • Official Transcript
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Student Conduct Verification
  • Two General Recommendations
  • Verification of Minimum GPA Requirement

Spring 2024 Participant
Meeting and speaking with those from outside the US and from other states was the most rewarding part of my experience abroad. My roommates were from Sweden, Spain, Australia, Mexico, Canada, and in the US from Maine, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina. I loved talking with them and sounding ideas off of each other. While we grew up across the globe, there were so many similarities that we shared. For example, the love of Harry Potter movie nights was not lost on a single one of us. But it was also interesting to compare the differences. I got to learn so much more about their cultures and day to day lives that I never would have by not meeting them in person. I found some amazing friends, even though we were all thousands of miles away from home.

Say "yes" to things. I generally like routines and quiet but I forced myself out of my comfort zone and it was the best thing I ever did. I found myself swimming in Loch Ness, hiking in Glencoe, standing on the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, climbing through castles in Germany, and strolling through Christmas markets in Norway.

I found that the way my studies interlinked with my surroundings was most rewarding. The more I learned in my classes, the greater appreciation I had for me surroundings and the more I explored in my free-time, the better I could contextualize what I learned in class. Seeing the effects of history first-hand on the landscape is something you can't do anywhere else.
