Summer 2026 Participant
I found our guided tours to be most rewarding because I learned so much about the culture, environment, and crazily different history between Como, Verona, and Milan.

The main lesson I learned was how to slow down everyday life in a way that fulfills all the needs. I struggled with the transition into college for balancing social, academic, nutritional, and physical needs into a schedule that I got to choose. A highlight of our research was about the fast paced American culture and how rushing from activity to activity affects meeting basics needs. In Europe, I enjoyed walking to coffee shops or local restaurants to get to know the waiter or owners, where the food came from, and notice my surroundings. I have been finding ways to incorporate the slower approach to my needs now that I am back. This can look like walking to dinner and sitting outside if possible. This gives me exercise, I look at the trees and birds on the way there, and often I will meet or chat with a friend. The combination of meeting multiple needs in one activity helps me be motivated to do the task. Now when I feel overwhelmed with school or relationships, I take a step back and think through what meeting these needs first can do for me to be better equipped to handle the load I am carrying.
