First and foremost, I learned and improved my Chinese. Second, I learned how to navigate and live in a foreign country with completely different customs in the U.S. I even traveled outside of Gao Xiaong to Taipei for a weekend by myself, booking my own hotel, finding a good place to eat, and finding attractions to visit. The experience was a bit scary, but in the end it was the most fun and rewarding experience I had during my time in Taiwan.

The classes were harder than KU's but are much more rewarding and informative.

When I first got to Taiwan, I hardly knew how to ride the metro or navigate a bus schedule. By the end of the program, I was traveling across Taiwan by myself—booking train tickets, planning complicated bus itineraries, and chatting with locals on the metro. This program helped me to learn how to live in and travel independently in a foreign country with confidence.
