Program Description:

Lutz and McLean Study Away Scholarship

Funds provided with generous support of David Lutz, PhD and Ellen Scott McLean. Either one $1,000 or two $500 scholarships will be awarded annually. This fellowship is open to KU undergraduate students studying a language at KU other than English that is not their first language and for whom the study abroad experience will be their first opportunity to spend a significant time living abroad and using the language of study. Applicants must submit a brief essay (500 words or less) explaining how the scholarship will make a difference to them. Minimum GPA of 2.5 overall, completion of fourth semester of the language of study (with B avg. or better) by the time of the program, and 2.8 in the major. Preference will be given to students majoring or minoring in the language of study, when such a major/minor is available.


Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to submit the following items. Applicants who have not begun an application for a study abroad program will not be eligible for the scholarship. Scholarship is open to Summer and Semester study abroad students.  Fall, Early Start Fall and Academic Year students should select the Academic Year term cycle when applying for the scholarship.
 
  • Scholarship Personal Statement - Applicants must submit a brief essay (500 words or less) explaining how the scholarship will make a difference to them.
  • Unofficial Transcript or Advising Report

All recipients will be expected to write a thank-you note to the donor.
