Peter Gilles Springer Fellowship for study in France

The Peter Gilles Springer Fellowship for Study in France is an annual award to support an outstanding graduate student from the following disciplines: French, History, or Political Science. The fellowship shall be used for the student’s studies, in France only, and awards are based on both need and merit. The award amount for the summer or academic year is $1,500.00

It is expected that the recipient will make arrangements to visit the donor, Phyllis Springer Sipahioglu, in Paris.
 

Eligibility

Any Master’s or Ph.D. student from the departments of French, History, or Political Science who will be studying in France during the summer or academic year.
Please note that you must show that you have financial need by submitting the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year you will be going abroad.  Students must be enrolled and receive credit for their time abroad. Summer students must be enrolled in at least 1 credit hour during the summer term.   Applicants should also meet with KU Study Abroad and complete the Study Abroad SIP: Student Initiated Program - Research application.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to submit the following documents through this online application.  

• Description of the applicant's course of study and a description of the proposed research project and/or academic activities that the applicant will pursue while staying in France with justification that the work can only be carried out in France.
• Current CV 
• Letter of support from a faculty member in the applicant's department
• Unofficial Transcript or Advising Report
• After returning from the research trip, the applicant must report on his/her findings and provide documentation of the expenses incurred
