IMPORTANT DATE INFORMATION: These dates are tentative. The start date is the on-site arrival date. In order to arrive in Spain on January 18th, students will need to leave the U.S. on January 17, 2025. The end date is for students taking only IES Abroad Center courses. Students taking local university courses will work with IES Abroad to extend their stay. All students will depart their housing the day after the last final exam, which will be no later than May 15, 2025

Funding your Study Abroad Program

KU Study Abroad can do personalized financial aid and scholarship advising for students.  Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.  KU students who qualify for financial aid in the form of Stafford and/or other loans, Federal Grants, and KU or outside scholarships may apply the aid to the cost of a study abroad program.  
 
KU Study Abroad supplemental scholarships are available to KU degree seeking students. Applications are available online. The scholarship application deadline is March 1 for Summer, March 15th for Fall and Academic Year programs and October 1 for Spring, Winter Break and Spring Break programs.

Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to complete several documents for each study abroad application.  Below is a list of documents that will need to be completed for an application.

  • Academic Plan and Approval Form
  • Authorization to Release Student Information
  • Financial Aid Questionnaire
  • One General Recommendation and One Language Recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Student Conduct Verification
  • Unofficial Transcript or Advising Report
  • Verification of Minimum GPA Requirement

Aside from learning how to speak and understand the language effectively, you also learn a lot about culture and lifestyle that are completely unique from the United States. To be able to understand how the world works in different countries and cultures from experience is something that is invaluable, in my opinion.
