Program Description:

The Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies (CLACS) offers scholarships of up to $600 for degree-seeking University of Kansas undergraduate students to participate in study abroad programs in Latin America.

These scholarships, known as the Anita Herzfeld Award, honor Anita Herzfeld, professor emerita of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, former director of KU Study Abroad, and beloved teacher and noted linguist. Herzfeld retired in 2012 after working to expand international education for KU students during a distinguished career spanning more than 50 years.

The deadline to apply is February 15 for Summer programs, March 1 for Academic Year and Fall programs, and October 1 for Winter Break, Spring Break, and Spring programs.


Eligibility

  • Degree-seeking KU undergraduate student
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Started application through KU Study Abroad & Global Engagement for eligible, credit-bearing study abroad program
Application Procedures

All applicants will be required to submit the following documents:
 
  • A scholarship essay in which the applicant addresses why they have chosen to study abroad and what motivated them to choose their study abroad program.  Applicants should discuss how their chosen program will help them fulfill their academic, career, and personal goals. They should also note any extenuating circumstances that they would like the scholarship committee to consider, including financial hardship or other challenges.
