My favorite part of the program was being able to experience a new culture while also providing audiology related services to the students and members of the community.

My favorite part of this program was getting hands on clinic practice with children and adults from a diverse background.

I found helping the kids out the most rewarding, especially the ones who we fit with hearing aids.

My favorite part was testing my skills in knowledge in completing speech and language evaluations in the schools. We were not sure what kids we were going to meet, so we always had to be ready to test our knowledge on their needs.

Something small I learned in the program is the importance of letting the parents be even more involved in the initial activation of hearing aids. Usually when hearing aids are activated, we as audiologists start asking the patient about the sound quality they're receiving. Our professor advised that we make more of a conscious effort to have the children's parents do the initial communication following the activation of their child's hearing aids.

Studying abroad helped me gain a better understanding of the state of hearing healthcare in a developing country and how different cultures approach hearing loss. I believe that developing cultural sensitivity and diversity is an essential skill for a healthcare provider.

I learned to be patient and flexible. Each day and client had different needs and required flexibility in order to provide the best care with the given situations and obstacles.
