My favorite part was walking through downtown Mexico City, viewing the architecture and experiencing the culture from ground level.

The best part of this program was the diversity in culture we explored throughout the country of Mexico. We visited multiple cities with very different ways of living, which really enriched the experience. Learning about the history of Mexico in a linear process (ancient civilizations, pre colonial time period, and modern / contemporary) structured the course in a way that was easy to understand and follow in an otherwise potentially overwhelming amount of information.

My favorite part of this program was the variety of experience. I felt like our program coordinators worked really hard to show us many different cultures, architectural time periods and influences within Mexico.

The manner in which the program was outlined, and the sequence of visiting each site/area made it feel as though we were traveling through time.

Practicing quick sketching was very rewarding. Due to the itinerary being packed with activities and visits, we didn’t have much time to sketch. Getting better at my speed while sketching will benefit in the long run.

The most rewarding part of this program was interacting with local people and learning about the craftsmanship that has been carried on for generations. The local artisanal artwork is unique to the different areas of Mexico.

I found visiting each archaeological site most rewarding because of how well preserved each site was and how you were able to see the history of how old the structures were.

It’s very, very hot. Do not underestimate the power of water and sunscreen.

The most important thing I learned was the opportunities that a design degree can open for me. Not only can I pursue a conventional architecture career, I can focus on art, open my own practice, find ways to work with artisanal workers. Architecture is a combination of art and engineering, creating many opportunities to pursue a unique career.

This experience was both rewarding and humbling. Understanding the country's deep rooted history and culture has allowed me to have a more profound admiration of Mexico. You have to fully experience the country by being emersed in the day to day activities to fully appreciate the culture.
