Being immersed in the culture of Berlin for four full weeks was life-changing. Not only did I learn about the history of the country, but I learned about myself. The way of life in Germany fosters a certain level of self-reflection, learning, and growth on multiple levels. Because of the study abroad, I found myself returning to the United States with new perspectives about people, myself, and society as a whole.

Experiencing the culture of Germany while simultaneously learning how the Cold War affected Germans by people who experienced it was fascinating.

Honestly, the most rewarding part of going to Berlin was being able to explore by myself. Having time to be in a new place with only a few people you know incentivizes experiences that you wouldn't have if you were sitting in your living room at home. Pushing myself to leave my comfort zone was, by far, the best part of my four-week endeavor.

Take advantage of every free moment you get. Obviously, take the time you need to be a functioning human being (sleep, eat, relax, etc.), but take advantage of everything! Germany is beautiful, the public transportation is marvelous, and the country is your oyster.

Most transactions in Germany are handled with cash rather than credit card. Lots of places don't even have card readers, so it's a good idea to always have cash on you!
