I loved working with fellow students to have a research experience. We interviewed original sources on complex social issues. Our professor and the assisting graduate students were experienced researchers who greatly encouraged us. This helped me grow my academic research skills and gave me confidence in talking with subjects.

The Gender Equity and Well-Being in Iceland program provided a unique opportunity to conduct original, collaborative research, engage with locals, and interact with Icelandic culture. With her unique ties to Iceland, Dr. Kerr is indispensable to the program. Her connections enabled us to conduct meaningful interviews with a variety of Icelandic creatives and gain a deeper appreciation of Icelandic culture. I enjoyed collaborating with other undergraduate, masters, and PhD students as we conducted research and presented our findings, and I look forward to writing a collaborative research paper in the coming months. In addition to scheduled walking tours, interviews, and lectures, I appreciated having time to bond with peers, explore Reykjavík, interview Icelanders more informally, and even go to the Blue Lagoon, take a tour of the Golden Circle, and ride Icelandic horses. The program furthered my interest in research and reminded me of the transformational power of traveling.

We were given lots of academic and cultural material ahead of the program. it was helpful to get it done before the program. Once in country, I really liked the freedom we had to immerse ourselves in the city and talk with people. Getting the pre-work done takes the pressure off so that I could enjoy that. Also, I narrowed down my "must have" experiences to a couple before I left, and that opened be up to more spontaneous opportunities in country.
