In lab it can be hard to tell if your professor has a passion for the subject they teach, or rather just a broad knowledge of a curriculum they enjoy. In the field you can tell immediately how much they care about their subjects. The look in their eyes and the excitement in their voice when they discover that species they've been searching for lets you know. I've never seen this kind of passion in a lab, and seeing it in the field let me know the professors I learn from truly do care. That was my favorite part of the program

I was the videographer so I had a different experience than the other students, but I liked having the freedom to capture the experience in any way I liked.

I enjoyed our time with the students and faculty from the university in Suriname.

Getting to experience a tropical rainforest and its remarkable diversity was something that I will never forget. I cannot wait until I can find myself in a jungle again.

The most rewarding part of this trip was knowing that the field work I did has an impact on the future field work that has to be done in the area. Future samples taken in this area have to follow the guidelines and standards we set up with our own sampling. Knowing that the work I did will have an impact on future scientific work in the area makes the work I did feel incredibly rewarding

It was educational from a scientific standpoint, and we also made many great friends.

I learned that there is so much more to science than the lab. The fieldwork you do connects you to a much broader world and opens you up to unique and wonderful experiences. Science to me always seemed like such a sterile subject, the only adventure coming from new discoveries. I learned that more than new discoveries, there are world experiences you get from working in the field, and that is something I can't wait to share with those around me
