My favorite part of the UAE Program was the being immersed into a culture that I had not really been exposed to before and being able to see how a newer nation has developed so quickly over 40 years. This program was a great way for me to see architecture from a new perspective and learn about a culture completely different from my own.

Being able to get into the culture and architecture, our tour guide VJ was the best, without him I might not have given everything five stars. I also liked how Nilou would stop us around areas of architectural importance and point out the important things. Tectonics and how a shading system was working or how it wasn't working was very insightful and interesting. Also, site visits and firm visits were a really good addition, it was just another layer of culture and architecture to see how offices work in different parts of the world.

The most rewarding element of the trip for me was interacting with the architects that we met on our firm visits and realizing that I could possibly work outside of the United States with some great opportunities that were present in the UAE.

I found that going to the firms and visiting active construction sites were the most rewarding parts of the trip. Although I believe all of it was great those were the part I found to stay with me after returning home.

I believe I found the most rewarding aspect to be opening my eyes to the culture and learning their values and ways.

Learning a new culture and seeing architecture from a completely new world view really allows a student to be more creative and thoughtful in their design.

In the future the UAE will be crawling with architectural masterpieces. This is the time to go and learn about them and study the architecture and building techniques behind each new city that emerges.
