Summer 2022 Participant
The element of the program that I found most rewarding was being able to see a successful surgery or case being finished. I saw some pretty wild things and whenever there was a positive outcome, I felt that special tie because I was there to see the final stitch. I was engulfed in the experience and helping people feel better and go back to their families healthy was the most rewarding part. Another part that was rewarding was being able to learn from these gifted doctors, and once we got comfortable with each other they even told me stories about themselves and I shared stories as well. We got to a level where they would also push us to speak in Spanish and practice on our end.

I loved the dual dynamic of getting enriching experiences in the hospitals and getting to explore Europe in our free time. The program is the perfect balance of valuable academic opportunities and freedom to do everything you want to do while abroad.

My favorite part was shadowing a wide variety of specialties at the hospital and interacting with physicians and residents! I truly enjoyed learning about healthcare in Italy and the viewpoints of both doctors and patients. Everyone in the hospital was very open-minded, and I was truly blessed to have witnessed so many fascinating surgeries and procedures.
